People for Animals , also known as PFA, is the largest animal welfare organization in India. It has a nationwide network of 26 hospitals, 165 units, 60 mobile units and 2.5 million members.

The organization is committed to rescuing and rehabilitating sick and needy animals by establishing shelters, ambulance services, sterilization programs, treatment camps, and disaster rescue missions for animals.

The organization also conducts educational programs in schools and is politically engaged by fighting in court and lobbying parliament on animal-related issues.

The PFA aims to establish an animal protection center in each of the country's 600 districts.

The Groin Groin Association

The GroinGroin association rescues and shelters farm animals exploited for their meat, particularly pigs. GroinGroin also specializes in miniature pigs, for which it offers a placement network to combat the abandonment of which they are widespread victims.

The association has a refuge where nearly a hundred animals rescued from slaughterhouses, farms, mistreatment or abandonment live together on 12 hectares, including pigs, hens and chickens, turkeys, cows, donkeys, horses and ponies, goats, dogs and cats!

Since its creation in 2005, the shelter has directly helped in the rescue and placement of more than 2,000 animals.

The L214 Ethics & Animals Association

L214 logo

L214 Ethics & Animals is a non-profit organization (under the 1908 law) focused on animals used in food production (meat, milk, eggs, fish), and revealing their conditions of breeding, transport, fishing and slaughter.

The association structures its work around 3 main areas:

  • To report on the reality of the most widespread practices, to change them or eliminate them through information and awareness campaigns. To identify and attempt to have illegal practices punished through legal action.
  • Demonstrate the negative impact of consuming animal products (terrestrial or aquatic) and propose alternatives.
  • To fuel public debate on animal welfare, to raise the issue of speciesism, to demand an end to the consumption of animals and other practices that harm them.

Why L214? This somewhat mysterious name refers to article L214 of the rural code: in 1976, animals were designated there for the first time as sentient beings.

Article L214-1: "Every animal, being a sentient being, must be kept by its owner in conditions compatible with the biological requirements of its species."
